A long, long night in Göttingen
About 25,000 science enthusiasts visited the events of the 3rd Night of Science on January 21st, 2017.
Saturday’s multi-faceted program took place at five areas throughout the city: The North Campus, the central Campus, the University Medical Center, the city center and the Southern part of the city. On the Central campus the Kulturwissenschaftliches Zentrum (KWZ) was opened for the first time during a Night of Science and housed numerous projects from the Faculty of Humanities.
320 different events – guided tours, experiments, workshops etc. – were organized at 25 venues, offering the visitors to touch, smell and even taste science first hand. This included a wide range of very different activities: no matter if experimental Physics show, a Science Slam, the replica of the Lilienthal glider, sign language, or an introduction to Cricket – the Night of Science had lots to offer for both big and small!
In addition to the University’s different faculties, institutes, collaborative research centers, administrative units, and collections several other institutions – most of them members or associate partners of the Göttingen Campus – took part in the Night of Science: the University Medical Center Göttingen, the five Max Planck Institutes located in Göttingen, the German Primate Center, the German Aerospace Center, the Göttingen Academy of Science and Humanities, the Laser-Laboratorium Göttingen, the YLAB – Geisteswissenschaftliches Schülerlabor, the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Hildesheim/Holzminden/Goettingen, and the PFH – Private University of Applied Sciences. Furthermore, several cultural institutions participated in the Night of Science thus making it their first appearance at this event.
